We invite you on a day trip to the spa town of Karlovy Vary, situated about 100 km west of Prague. Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) is a spa town founded by Czech king Charles IV in 1358. Its numerous thermal springs have healed many celebrities, such as the German poet Goethe and the Russian Tsar Peter the Great. The riverside spa district is home to several colonnades with columned walkways. The Hot Spring Colonnade is situated directly in the spa centre of Karlovy Vary above the Teplá River in the vicinity of Divadelní náměstí (Theatre Square). The geyser of the Hot Spring is a unique natural phenomenon and it yields an average of 2,000 litres of mineral water per minute. Thanks to high pressure, it gushes to a height of almost 12 metres. Thermal water from the spring is supplied to various spa facilities and it is also used for the production of Karlovy Vary thermal salt and the traditional stone-coated souvenirs.
If you walk from the Hot Spring in the spa centre across Jánský most (Jánský Bridge) to Tržiště (Market) Street, you will reach the Market Colonnade and Charles IV spring. According to legend, Emperor Charles IV healed his ailing limbs particularly at this spring. The famed legend of the foundation of Karlovy Vary is depicted on the bronze relief hanging directly over the spring bowel.
Art Nouveau lovers could admire Felix Zawojski house. Master tailor Zawojski had this beautiful Art Nouveau house built in 1900 for his fashion salon. In 1910, the very first burgher house lift in Karlovy Vary was installed in this building. Between 2006 and 2008, it underwent a complete reconstruction and conversion into a luxury hotel in the old-world style. The sophisticatedly restored Art Nouveau façade won 1st prize in the "2007 Façade of the Year" competition.
Our trip will show you many beauties of that city and the traditional lunch with choice of 3 meals will be provided in a local restaurant.
