Tour 9  Karlstejn Castle

Karlstejn Castle is a true gem of gothic architecture, located in the picturesque village of Karlstejn, just a short drive from Prague. Built by Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV in the 14th century, the castle was intended to house important relics and imperial, later Czech coronation jewels. One of the most impressive features of Karlstejn Castle is the Chapel of the Virgin Mary and St. Catherine's Chapel. These two chapels boast stunning frescoes that have been carefully preserved in their original state. Another must-see attraction at Karlstejn Castle is the Chapel of the Holy Rood, which houses a unique collection of 127 panels with semi-figures of saints, angels, and prophets. These panels were created by Master Theodorik, a renowned medieval painter, and are a true testament to the skill and craftsmanship of the time.

Visiting Karlstejn Castle is an unforgettable experience, but it should be noted that the castle's location makes the tour more physically demanding. Good walking shoes are recommended, as there are several uphill sections and steep stairs to climb.
